Introduction

Law should respond to the needs of society, this is what every law student is taught in first class. This simple maxim proves however difficult for a swift application namely when it comes to developing countries facing a highly technical industry like that of aviation. Being aware of this challenge, the Arab Law Society for Commercial and Maritime Law (ASCML), in association with The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (College of International Transport & Logistics), and in collaboration with Mr. Thomas Whalen, the distinctive aviation lawyer from Eckert and Seamans Cherin & Mellott, attempt to pave path for law reformers and policy makers, in Egypt and the Arab World, in their elaboration of a law reform strategy that copes with modern trends of aviation law, namely in: air freight forwarding, contractual and tort liability of air carriers & operators, and finance & arrest in aviation. ACAL’08 is organized by the Arab Society for Commercial and Maritime Law in cooperation of Indiana University Law School —Indianapolis and the law schools of Alexandria & Cairo Universities. Support is received from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (College of International Transport & Logistics).

ACCML’08 will be privileged of the participation of eminent and junior scholars and practitioners in aviation law and industry, alphabetically: Abdel-Rrafea MOUSSA, Ayman EL-SHIEHK, Farouk MALASH, Mazin NADIM, Mohamed A. IBRAHIM, Nagy ABDEL-MOAMEN and Thomas WHALEN.

Registration: Advanced Registration Required

To reserve a seat, you must e-mail (or fax) your name and organization by Wednesday, November 13, priority is given to AAST&MT students and ASCML members. Only 100 seats in conference room are available. No registration fee required. The conference will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation.
